I must say, attending a university that is ranked No. 3 in the country for Fashion sure has its perks. All fashion students have access to a library strictly dedicated to fashion. Some of the books I have checked out are incredible, and there are still more on my to-read list. Here are some of my favorites that I have collected personally as well as checked out of the library.
1. Yves Saint Laurent: Icons of Fashion Design by Marguerite Duras

Who can read it: anyone
What's it about: YSL and his impact on the fashion industry throughout the decades. Very detailed, with exerpts taken from other designers, photographers, and models, as well as many pictures to accompany.

2. Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs
This one was one of my finds at my school's fashion library. It is very detailed and has many pictures for lots of inspiration.
Who can read it: Anyone, but older women could benefit from the outfit inspiration because lets face it, young girls like myself cant afford LV. And Marc Jacobs is just so timeless.
What's it about: Compare and contrast differences and similarities between two of the most influential designers of the 20th century.

Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.
I mean, you know it's a good book if there's an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. That shirt is from the exhibition.

What's it About: Like LVMJ mentioned above, it is comparing and contrasting two similar, yet still different designers and how their vision has changed fashion thought the 20th century till today.

Bobbi Brown: Everything Eyes
A very informative, and detailed handbook from the one and only, Bobbi Brown. Well, technically, there are a few famous Bobbi Browns, but this one is my favorite. I picked this book up at Franchesca's for $10.
Who can read it: I would say teens-20's. I would even recommend this book for pre-teens who are learning how to apply make-up because it covers so many basics.
What's it about: Professional techniques, essential tools, and gorgeous make-up looks as well as many first-time make-up users tips. Good for beginners and experts alike.

Vintage Tea Party
How to host a perfect, vintage-inspired tea party. My favorite idea out of this book is called "Chilled Raspberry Soup". I found it at Anthropologie for $27, but you can probably find it cheaper online somewhere.
Who can read it: Anyone who wants to host a tea party.
What's it About: A collection of chic recipes, yummy teas, and cute, shabby-chic decorating ideas. This book looks pretty sitting on a table as a decoration as well!

The Teen Vogue Handbook
Don't let the title being "teen" vogue make you feel some time of way, this is a book of overall, stylish, chic ideas from fashion to how to present yourself overall.
Who can read it: It says teen, but I say it goes from ages 15-25. This book is especially good for students majoring in fashion because it describes how the industry works and how to succeed.
What's it about: An overall guide on how the fashion business works: from how to dress, how to talk, and how to work hard, play hard.
Who can read it: It says teen, but I say it goes from ages 15-25. This book is especially good for students majoring in fashion because it describes how the industry works and how to succeed.

The Glitter Plan by Pamela Skaist-Levy & Gela Nash-Taylor
Ever wondered who T&P were whenever you say something from Juicy Couture? Now you know. A very juicy read indeed.
Who can read it: Juicy enthusiasts, younger women, or students wanting to learn how to start their own brand.
What's it about: How Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor went from driving semi trucks, to sewing their own designs, and then eventually being CEOs and Lead Designers of a multi-million dollar company known as Juicy Couture.
Who can read it: Juicy enthusiasts, younger women, or students wanting to learn how to start their own brand.
What's it about: How Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor went from driving semi trucks, to sewing their own designs, and then eventually being CEOs and Lead Designers of a multi-million dollar company known as Juicy Couture.
The World According to Karl
Best one for last. I'll even keep this black and white, because that's how Karl would want it.
Who can read it: I would say 18+ because it's more sophisticated and some of his quotes may not be child-appropriate.
What's it about: Karl's viewpoints on the fashion industry as well as a collection of some of his most famous quotes. For example " work is making a living out of being bored", "the brain is a muscle and I'm kind of a bodybuilder" and "you cannot be creative with people around you".
Who can read it: I would say 18+ because it's more sophisticated and some of his quotes may not be child-appropriate.
What's it about: Karl's viewpoints on the fashion industry as well as a collection of some of his most famous quotes. For example " work is making a living out of being bored", "the brain is a muscle and I'm kind of a bodybuilder" and "you cannot be creative with people around you".
This is definitely my current list of books to check out. Most of these you can obtain from Barnes and Noble. Barnes and Noble believe it or not has actually upped their game as far as their fashion selection goes. Don't forget to get a cute bookmark while you're at it. Happy reading <3
